S2 Rounding and Estimating

Rounding and estimating help you judge whether a calculation is sensible. In S2, practise decimal place value and estimation in more demanding maths contexts.

Worked example

Round 6.2748 to three decimal places. The fourth decimal digit is 8, so round 6.274 up: 6.275.

Common mistakes

Inspect only the digit immediately after the requested place. Keep trailing zeroes when the question asks for a particular number of decimal places.

Helpful hints appear after incorrect answers, then you can retry the question. This is practice support, not a formal assessment.
