S1 and S2 topic guide

Angles and Shapes

Angles describe turns and shapes have properties such as equal sides or parallel lines. This topic supports S1 and S2 maths practice based on Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence.

Worked example

Angles in a triangle add to 180°. If two angles are 55° and 65°, the third is 60° because 180 − 55 − 65 = 60.

Common mistakes

Use the angle rule for the shape in the question. For a triangle the total is 180°; do not confuse this with angles around a point, which total 360°.
