S1 and S2 topic guide

Fractions, Decimals and Percentages

Fractions, decimals and percentages are different ways of showing the same part of a whole. This topic supports S1 and S2 maths practice based on Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence.

Worked example

Three quarters is 3/4. Dividing 3 by 4 gives 0.75, which is 75%.

Common mistakes

Do not treat the bottom number of a fraction as a decimal place. When changing a decimal to a percentage, multiply by 100: 0.4 is 40%, not 0.4%.

Helpful hints appear after incorrect answers, then you can retry the question. This is practice support, not a formal assessment.

Use this in S1 maths practice or S2 maths practice, then start practice or create an account.
