Simple Equations

An equation says that two expressions have the same value. Solving it means finding the value that keeps both sides balanced.

Worked example

Solve x + 7 = 19. Subtract 7 from both sides, so x = 12.

Common mistakes

Use the same operation on both sides of the equals sign. Do not move a number across the sign without changing the calculation correctly.
